SOME CANDIDATES FORGOT EXPO IN ANSWER BOOKLETS - WAEC

In a hurry to submit their answer booklets to invigilators, some candidates forget their expo (materials used for examination malpractice) in the booklets, the West African Examination Council has said. The council also noted that some other candidates use different answer booklets from its authorized copies.

SEX OFFENCES RISE THREEFOLD IN SCHOOLS

The number of sex offences in schools reported to police has almost trebled in four years, a study has shown.

Ten sexual offences on school premises are reported to police in England and Wales on average each school day, according to figures compiled by Plan International, a children’s charity.

The number of allegations rose from 719 in 2011-12 to 1,955 in 2014-15 in what the NSPCC has called a “very worrying trend”.

51 killed, 94 injured after child suicide bomber aged 12-14 attacks wedding party in Turkey

At least 51 people were killed and over 94 injured when a child suicide bomber aged between 12 and 14 attacked a wedding party in the Turkish city of Gaziantep late on Saturday, August 20.

The attack was the deadliest in a series of bombings in Turkey this year. President Tayyip Erdogan described the attack as an attempt by Islamic State extremists to destabilize the country by exploiting ethnic and religious tensions.


"Initial evidence suggests it was a Daesh attack," Erdogan said in Istanbul on Sunday, using an Arabic name for the hardline Sunni Islamist group. He said 69 people were in hospital and 17 were "heavily injured".
Islamic State has been blamed for other similar attacks in Turkey, often targeting Kurdish gatherings in an effort to inflame ethnic tensions. The deadliest was last October, when suicide bombers killed more than 100 people at a rally of pro-Kurdish and labour activists in Ankara.

The Sokoto State Police Command on Sunday confirmed the alleged murder of a 43-year-old woman, Yemisi Adio, by her husband, Taiwo Adio.

Tragedy as 65-years-old Woman Is Found Dead in Well in Ilorin, Kwara State

Residents of a community in Kwara have been left in mourning after an unfortunate tragedy befell an aged woman leading to her death.

 

A 65 year old woman who was in charge of ensuring proper sanitary condition of a mosque in llorin, Kwara was found dead inside a well at the mosque premises on Saturday.The incident occurred at AnsarulDeen Mosque, Osere area, Sawmill in llorin West Local Government Area of the state.

Eye witnesses’ said that the woman, popularly known as “lya Majeobaje”, fell into the well on Friday while fetching water to clean the mosque.

They said that there was nobody within the vicinity of the mosque to rescue her when she fell inside the well at about 5p.m.
Some of the residents of the area who discovered the dead woman immediately alerted the state fire service in llorin.
The Director of the State Fire Service, Mr Tiamiyu Raji, confirmed the incident. He said personnel from the Fire Service removed the woman from the well dead on Saturday afternoon.
He said that the corpse of the woman was taken to the B Division of Police State Command, Surulere in llorin.
Effort to speak with the Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, Samuel Okasanmi on the incident proved futile.
